Here's the quick and easy way to pick a size:
1.Look at the descriptions next to the unit sizes on our pages (click on Ready to Rent above, then pick your location and scroll down to the unit sizes). These compare unit sizes to things you already know, like bedrooms, bathrooms, or garage stalls, to get a feel for real world sizes. You kind of already know if you could fit everything in your house into your garage, it's intuitive.
2. Read the descriptions of what a unit can accept like "perfect for a one bedroom apartment" or "fits the contents of an entire 3 bedroom home" also available on our Locations pages.
3. Now, take a bold guess (off the top of your head) as to what size you need. Use intuition, not math.
4. Decide if you are the type of person who: will pack it like a game of Tetris, toss everything in randomly, or plan out it with aisleways so you can get to literally anything in there, at any time. Adjust your previous guess up or down accordingly (again, no spreadsheets here ok? Resist the temptation no matter how strong it is!!!.) Are you a Tetris player? Adjust down a size. Are you gonna toss it all in? You're in the middle. Totally OCD and afraid you will just HAVE to get to that one shirt you packed away somewhere? Adjust up (quite a bit, possibly!)
4. Finally, go a size bigger than the one you guessed. We are not trying to upsell you here. Not only will more space make your life easier (which during a move is critical), bigger units costs less money per square foot of space you get, and two small units usually cost allot more than one big one, so avoid underestimating what you need (at 603 storage we know this happens, so if it does, ask us about a discount on your 2nd unit!)
TLDR - use the unit size descriptions and your intuition - then go up a size or two.
Storing a Vehicle?
Most cars need a 10x18 or larger storage unit. The average sedan in the US is 16 ft long. All cars are over 5' wide. 10x20 is the most common size for vehicle storage.
Remember to check the height! Most storage doors are only 7ft tall.
